Counsellor and Chartered Psychologist

Andi Lee Smart

Counsellor (MNCPS) and Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol)

Pink Therapy accredited Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversities Therapist (AGSRDT).

PLEASE NOTE, I AM NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING COUNSELLING CLIENTS.

Life can throw many diverse challenges at us: for example loss, crisis and/or change that can cause us to question our sense of direction. I believe that within these challenging times we have the ability to grow and develop – even flourish – through exploring how the emotional, psychological and physical self are interconnected – the way in which one area feeds into another.

This path of exploration often requires us to delve into our internal and external worlds: who we are, our authentic selves, others around us as well as the world in which we live.

Organisations I’ve worked with

I work with (or have worked for) several agencies in different roles such as MindOut, Talk To The Rainbow (TTTR), Mind Bristol, Allsorts, LGBT Foundation and Stonewall, in addition to running my own private practice for 3 years, where I have worked (or work) with LGBTQ+ clients who are experiencing challenges relating to their sexuality and/or gender identity as well as more broader challenges related to: mental ill-health, heteronormativity, stigma, discrimination and/or prejudice.

What will happen in therapy?

During therapy I will always provide a trusting and safe space for you to explore your feelings and emotions. This includes assisting you in understanding these feelings and emotions (and possible challenges) as well as the possibilities for positive growth and change.

Through the therapeutic process, then, we can start to navigate - collaboratively - the challenges you are facing as a way to seek out solutions and further possibilities.

    Counselling testimonies

“Andi has supported me for over 1 year now. He really helps me to manage my anxiety through our wellbeing plan and I  have always found him to be kind, reliable, and empathetic.”

“When I started counselling I was really hesitant but Andi helped me feel comfortable by providing me with as safe space to talk – I would definitely recommend.”

“The cbt-based tackling stress and anxiety worksheets we go through in sessions are so useful for me as they help me figure out how I can manage my anxiety and stress better through breathing techniques, behaviour change and healthier thinking.”

“Being bullied for being gay for 13 years meant I often experienced social anxiety, Andi helped me explore my experiences and better manage how I was feeling – it’s great having a counsellor from the LGBT community who understands some of your experiences.”
